I didn't want to cook a simple steak with vegetables and some sort of carb so I was inspired by the Gyudon (beef bowl) by Gyu Nami to come up with this dish which can be easily replicated at home. But unlike Gyu Nami, I didn't use wagyu and it turned out really yummy so I reckon that you can use any type of beef, as long as it's meant for a steak or roast.
It's not a difficult dish to do but requires a bit of wash up because you will use several pots and pans to cook each part.
Ingredients:
- 1 sirloin steak (about 150-200g)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup of rice of your choice (I used brown rice)
- roasted seaweed
- mayonnaise
- sesame seed sauce
- cracked black pepper
Method:
- Cook your rice as per instructions.
- Cook your steak 1 min per side for medium rare and a bit longer for medium to medium well. I do not suggest cooking this too thoroughly but again, this is up to you.
- Set your steak aside to rest and then slice it afterwards.
- Poach an egg in a separate pan. For instructions on how to poach an egg, click here.
- Put the rice as your base. Sprinkly the roasted seaweed on top. Place the sliced beef on top and drizzle the sesame seed sauce.
- Place the poached egg right at the top and then place a bit of mayonnaise on the top. Finally, sprinkle some freshly cracked black pepper on top.
