Whisk - Another Cafe At Tiong Bahru With Great Ambience & Cake

As mentioned previously, we went to Teru Sushi for dinner after which we decided to head onto the hipster area in Tiong Bahru. What caught our eye about Whisk is that it is starking white and at a corner, which used to house the famous Hong Kong Jin Tian Eating House (well known for its roast meats).

Straight off the bat, we love the decor. It's homely but yet spacious and gave us the vibe of both colonial house meets Perankan vintage.
Love the tiles!
They must've spent quite a bit on the reno as you can see from the tiles and the toilet...they even have a piano!
But that's not why we came to Whisk. It was mainly for the cakes and cakes they have aplenty.

In the end, we ordered a slice of Carrot Cake (S$7) and the very last piece of 'Tuxedo' (S$7) as the birthday cake for my friend. Although it was about 10pm, it was the last piece and my friend's birthday, the lady boss didn't want to give a discount. :( Oh well.

Nonetheless, the people there are super nice. Ok...onto the review of the cakes!
First up was the carrot cake. It was really moist and I thought that the cream cheese carrot decorations were also quite adorable. I do know that the price of rental is expensive but $7 per slice of cake was a little steep in my opinion.

As for the Tuxedo, it was quite special and chocolate lovers may go gaga over it. The bottom is a nice moist chocolate biscuit and on top of that is a thick layer of chocolate that reminds me of nama-chocolate from Japan (ie. lotsa cream). This whole morsel of chocolately goodness is then covered with chocolate frosting and white chocolate is piped to give it the bow tie and buttons. Really good! Worth the try if you see it. Apparently, it's their best seller so far and lady boss doesn't make it everyday.

Good luck to them as Tiong Bahru already has lots of cafes and competition is probably pretty stiff. Nonetheless, I think a lot of people will go to Whisk for a cuppa and chill out as it's less noisy than Tiong Bahru bakery although they offer less variety.
