Review - Ginza Tendon Itsuki's Tempura Donburi

My friend has been raving about Ginza Tendon Itsuki's Tempura Donburi for ages and with the long snaking queue outside the restaurant, I had to check it out. They only have 2 things on the menu: Special Tendon (S$13.90++) or Vegetable Tendon (S$12.90++), and they serve chawanmushi as well as miso soup alongside.

The chawanmushi was very flavourful, smooth and light. Perfect to slurp on while waiting for the Tendon to arrive. Do note that there's free flow of pickled vegetables too.

I must say that I was most impressed with the tempura egg! Check out the video above where you can see the yolk still oozing out and adding so much creaminess to the dish. It really left me thinking, "How the heck did they do that?".

If you really want to know, then you should ask for a counter seat where you can see the tempura chefs at work. Alas, there were 4 of us and we just took the first available table.

Ginza Tendon Itsuki just does tempura really really well. Was it worth the wait? Sure, if you're with friends and you don't mind sitting outside and having a chat while waiting. Do note that they will only seat you once the whole party is there AND they only accept cash. Go there early and try it one day if you're in town!
